Due to page length, Nelirikk’s info has been moved to his own page

Korval's Small Troop[]

House Guard lapel pin

  • Korval House Guards Nelirikk Explorer, Diglon Rifle, and Hazenthull Explorer were “born” in a creche into the soldier race, Yxtrang. They were formerly in the Fourteenth Conquest Corps, which invaded Lytaxin, home of Clan Erob
  • For varied reasons, the three pledged service to Val Con yos'Phelium, the "The Hero” Captain Miri Robertson, and Line yos'Phelium, embracing all of Clan Korval
  • The Delms gave them the name nor'Phelium. The prefix nor means "you're officially attached to Clan Korval, an acknowledged member of the House Guard"[1]

Nelirikk Explorer / "Beautiful"[]

Nelirikk is introduced in the novel Plan B, where he is a main character, fully vetted and described. He also appears in various subsequent novels and short stories. See his page, Nelirikk

from Jela’s Troop[]

All three of Korval’s House Guard honor Jela, a historic figure in Troop legendarium. Songs and stories are told of Jela. The unit where Nelirikk trained paid homage to the legendary Jela and employed the shibjela (translates as "Jela's necklace" or "Jela's noose") a graceful wire weapon. [2] (see Jela’s Soldier Lore )

Diglon Rifle[]

First introduced in I Dare, Diglon is a main character in The Rifle's First Wife. [3] He is a former Yxtrang Rifle, a common trooper[4]

"Large by most Terran standards, to Liadens he was out of reason large, overly muscled, and menacing."[3]

Sworn to the service of line yos'Phelium, he’s currently serving at Jelaza Kazone as security and gardener, and at the Spaceport as security. Enjoys cats, poker, gardening /growing things.[3] Has an aptitude and interest for learning new skills, including driving cars. He enjoys chauffeuring. [5]

Excerpt Dragon in Exile, Kareen’s Landau

Diglon chauffers

"Belonging to a world was an unusual thing -- he’d grown up as a man of arms, expecting that all he belonged to was the Fourteenth Conquest Corps. That was when the Yxtrang High Command had been his decision maker, a time he was, in retrospect, glad was over. He had stood on seventeen worlds in his life, counting this one, and this was perhaps the third where he stood somewhat welcome." [3]

excerpt, Rifle’s First Wife

Diglon exercises and drills daily, running the circuit around Jelaza Kazone and target shooting, occasionally with Quin yos'Phelium and other clan members. [6] He also knows martial arts:

"Diglon’s mastery of the dance was something Syl Vor hoped he might someday approach."[7]

Marriage-by-contract with field ecologist Alara chel'Voyon, a Scout on Surebleak, whose clan (Silari) is aligned with Korval [3]

Hazenthull Explorer/Haz[]

First introduced in I DARE, Haz features as a key character in Dragon in Exile, Alliance of Equals, Neogenesis, and Salvage Right

  • tall, strong, and fast, with short frizzy brown hair
  • former Yxtrang Explorer, similar to a Scout in training
  • until he died on Lytaxin, she served in the 14th Conquest Corps under Gernchik Explorer. [4] She respected and perhaps loved him, “the Elder.”
  • sworn to the service of line yos'Phelium: House Guard Hazenthull nor'Phelium[8]
  • a master pilot: “Thank you, Pilot nor'Phelium" [9]
  • On Surebleak, Haz lives at Lady Kareen’s townhouse, adding to security’s melant'i in the evening. By day, she provides security for the Spaceport, reporting to Angela Lizardi “Liz” with her partner Tolly Jones. [10]
Haz and Tolly, Friend of a Friend excerpt
"Big Haz and Tolly. Haz, she walked like a Scout, quiet and loose, and eyes moving. Tolly. . .Tolly was a puzzle.[11]
"Not an innocent, Haz: a genetic soldier, with more than a nodding relationship with violence and death. But she had…honor, and a practical core he’d depended on, when they were partners. She’d stood at his back, she hadn’t run out on him or sold him to the highest bidder"[12]

“From House Guard Hazenthull nor'Phelium, on detached duty supporting pilot Tocohl Lorlin and pilot-mentor Tollance Berik-Jones. I report a situation."[15]
